Meatless Mondays

Post  Bailey on Sat Oct 16, 2010 3:25 pm

Looking for a way to help the environment and our planet but not able to commit full time? How about considering Meatless Mondays?

The campaign actually dates back to World War I when the FDA encouraged the American population to forego eating meat on Mondays to help conserve resources during the war. Throughout the years it has taken on different meaning obviously but even today the benefits of going meatless just one day a week are huge! Meatless Monday was restarted in 2003 as a public health awareness program. The campaign was endorsed by the Center for a Livable Future (a division of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health) as well as over 20 public health schools. In April 2009, Meatless Monday launched an informational video noting the effects of meat consumption on climate change.

Here's what Emily has to say on the subject.

Meatless Mondays is something I've been doing personally and so far it's going pretty well! Has anyone else tried this?

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Monday!! Not that any of us like to be reminded of such an awful thing, but I do hope at least some of you will join us in going meatless this Monday!

I plan to start the day with yogurt and fruit, then I'm taking Mac & Cheese along for lunch and tomorrow evening I'm planning to have guests up for a dinner of veggie burgers and roasted potatoes. Here are some links for ideas for other meatless meals. Smile

What are your Meatless Monday plans? Is this idea not for you? If not, tell us why! Smile
